@EXPO..…go Vertical
@Expo is a project started in 2008, in the midst of the real estate crisis and completed in the post-Covid period.
It is once again a lesson for us and for architects, a lesson in which architecture must be viewed with much more care regarding its meaning and impact over time on society.
I started from urban planning in accordance with the regulations of that time and I completed it at a different time. It is an experiment that succeeded, but I consider that the architect has a humble place in this scenario and is only part of a much bigger picture.
…..what has endured over time? – C O M P O Z I T I A .
during ~10 years we held on tight, going through management and cost-control decisions, dozens of checks and changes in legislation to stick to the initial composition - vertical cuts and hollows in the main volume from the street. This is evident even now in 2024 – the elegance of vertical lines and the substitution of forms and structure only for this desired outcome.
…..what didn't work out in time? – the details, the colors, the accesses, the function.
the initial details have changed along with technology, the function has acquired new trends - dictated by corporations and new tenants, by legislative changes, and the accesses have aligned with the safety requirements and accommodations required by Breeam certification.
