Bucharest Business Park office buildings were built in 2006 by Portland Trust with architects Chapman Taylor, Adest Architecture and Alpha Studio, and are one of the iconic office buildings of Bucharest being the first authentic business park. Situated in the north area of Bucharest, in the most dynamic office district of Bucharest, near the protected urban area of King Mihai I (Herăstrău) Park.
The design of the square in front of the A+B buildings and near plane-tree garden, added minimum design intervention using the existing exterior concrete benches, added plants for shadow and specific useful furniture (dust bin, bicycle rack) made of Corten (a material that matches the terracotta on the buildings). The furniture was re-used and re-organized in the shape of a circle with the interior empty. The new circle space emphasized the image of the square.
Also, the design brief requested a necessary exterior smoking area. The available space was very narrow and long, with ivy plantation that was thriving. The proposal used the existing ivy plantation and created discreet covered areas, with metal and glass, The design is integrated with the existing elements of the buildings, looking almost invisible.
