Authors’ Comment

An ephemeral capsule takes shape in the middle of the house. Life surrounding other life. It can be a place of refuge, meditation, inspiration, but also a sensory experience. It becomes an individual space through its segmented living, one person at a time, one idea at a time, only one chair. The installation is a place of transformation that creates bridges through multiple questions.
How has our perception of personal space changed?
What are the limits of this type of space?
How do we negotiate them?
Are we trying to redefine it?
What does it say about us as individuals?
The installation is the starting point in the attempt to question the known and to give voice together, to questions, in a world full of fantasies and possibilities. Space becomes a universal language that brings us closer, where every question generated is a story worth discovering.
The pandemic and the isolation that 2020 has brought, has made us, professionals in the field of architecture and design, ask ourselves questions.
"Since last year when we returned to the office and started going out in public spaces, we realized that during the isolation, but also during the state of emergency, everyone's personal space cemented into a much more palpable than before 2020, when we did not pay so much attention to it. The pandemic has forced us all to reevaluate many parts of our lives, but also the relationship with space, at home, at the office, the dynamics of rooms that have changed or had to change their function. We wanted to direct people's attention to the individual space and its relationship with the common space through the Space within Space installation. Together with the people who will experience the installation, we want to arrive at a series of questions that can help us better understand what people feel in relation to their space and how they relate to it".
Starting from this transformation that took place during the last two years, the installation took shape, a capsule designed not only to materialize a spatial delimitation but also to challenge visitors to introspection.
Installation audio background:
if you close your eyes, how do you perceive the space around you?
unfortunately I can't stop my thought either
how I sometimes manage to hold my breath underwater,
but I keep silent more and more deeply
surrounded by life
like a primitive architecture open to the sky
under the same sky – separate, but probably always together.
an immaterial world floats above me,
more present than the people passing by or the noise among us.

How do you negotiate the limits of your space?

sometimes the spaces between words
they contain infinite stories
just about limits
and we are the only ones who penetrate them
with eyes looking at nothing
as for the greatest certainty.

What color would your personal space be?

in an unknown place I have more time to live for myself
I feel the chaotic flow of things, their random and meaningless appearances and disappearances.
in my space I contemplate the grand spectacle of my own thoughts.
we contribute to the dilution of our own limits.
the created capsule is no longer closed under its own weight,
she is no longer a prisoner of my own being
but refuge.
the space is not homogeneous, but has breaks and cracks,
voids witness to the sentimental monumentality.
take care of your space, and the space will thank you.

What does your personal space say about you?
