BDF 2026 – Calea Griviței – Calea Victoriei
Frame by frame. 3D stories with preset dimensions.
An urban journey exploring the limits of prefabrication, involving permutations, combinations, mix-and-match approaches, mutations, shifts, and—occasionally—twists and turns. A nearly linear route along the (loosely defined) Grivița–Calea Victoriei axis, stretching from Buzești to the Odeon, with scenic detours to Amzei Square and U.A.U.I.M.
I’ve switched up the combination of frames (blue ones this time). Sometimes on Grivița, sometimes on Calea Victoriei, or over at Amzei or the Cina building, on Academiei Street (at two locations, at least), or by the University Fountain. No black birds. No scale models—but maps and explanations everywhere. While in 2025 we combined seating areas and "navigation" installations within the festival into a single assembly, in 2026 we constructed two parallel (sub)systems: one for seating and another for wayfinding. Each (sub)system possessed its own geometric language and played a distinct role in shaping the visitor's journey—frames for orientation and lines for benches. The simple lines seen on Grivița Street evolved into a dense tangle of "spaghetti" at the MNAR. A multitude of lines clustered together formed a piece of urban furniture—horizontally oversized and anchored by two pivot points—created by placing beams side-by-side; it was essentially an aggregation of six-meter-long benches into a single object, an attempt to transform a palace parade ground into a public square.
As with any framework-based installation, we worked with "stations". These were blue markers spaced somewhat more closely than the former tram stops that had vanished when the Buzești - Berzei axis was redeveloped.
