Authors’ Comment

Located a short distance from Bucharest, the pavilion is an occasional retreat for small seasonal events. It seeks to provide the appropriate background for the intended activity, while remaining sufficiently neutral and flexible for future use.
The first thing that struck us was the scale of the place and the richness of the plant life. The further away from the main road the more dominant the landscape becomes. From the very beginning, there has been mature vegetation on the site that appeared to have spread naturally. The early stakes of the project were to preserve the existing vegetation and to place the building in such a way as to enhance each other. The pavilion is therefore a contextual response, an attempt to work with what is on site: both the immediate elements of the plot and the atmosphere of the rural environment in which it is located.
Wood was the obvious answer, not only for the logic of sustainability of the intervention, but also for its aesthetic qualities, being the element that gives the consistency of an elegant structure and the naturalness of its relationship with the surroundings. The challenge of such a structure with simple natural wood elements was to maintain a wide opening without additional elements. In this respect, the chosen structural system is dominated by the strong presence of the roof through the 44 thin trusses (4 cm) placed at an axis of 75 cm.
The project has been the subject of documentation throughout the construction process. At the time of the assembly of the structure, the site was open to study visits by students from the UAUIM, 1st year, in order to familiarise themselves with the materiality of wood.
