Location
Situated in the heart of the Getic Subcarpathian, in the city of Râmnicu Vâlcea, this home incorporates all the features of the surrounding landscape. The plot on which it stands has a 10-meter elevation difference, offering a spectacular view of the Carpathians and the city—an aspect appreciated by the owners from the very beginning.
The house belongs to a family of two, whose adult children visit occasionally. The home is spread over two levels: basement and ground floor, perfectly integrated into a plot that naturally slopes from the street towards the garden—an arrangement that aligned naturally with the design brief provided by the owners.
Concept and Layout
The main entrance is located at the ground floor level, with the garage situated to the right, in direct relation to the street. Since the couple spends most of their time alone in the house, they wanted a clear separation between their space and the visitors’ area, ensuring that their daily activities could be confined exclusively to the ground floor.
The ground floor is clearly divided into two distinct areas: the day zone and the night zone. The living room and kitchen open up to a generous terrace that offers an impressive panorama of the mountains and the city. Being a couple who enjoys cooking at home, they requested a spacious kitchen that also serves as the dining area. To further meet the need for privacy, the facade facing the street was designed to be as opaque as possible, while the large glazed area opens towards the valley.
The night zone includes a master bedroom with a large dressing room, designed to accommodate both summer and winter clothing, in line with the owners’ preferences. For the bathrooms, they opted for natural light, but with discreet windows, integrated into a small "Balinese garden" specially created for intimacy and a relaxing atmosphere.
Basement and Facilities
The basement houses the spaces for visitors, an office, a relaxation area with a sauna, a small gym, storage areas, and technical spaces.
Materials and Finishes
Natural materials such as wood and stone were used, highlighted by light-colored plaster, giving the house a warm and welcoming feel, while harmoniously blending into the mountainous landscape.
