We intend to introduce a mobile public space through the
“Street Circus” and to complete spaces as part of the two
festivals in Bucharest and Logrono. The basic idea is that of
an object - the Circus - which, by being places in different
locations within the city, temporarily alters the meaning of the
surrounding elements without creating physical contact.
Thus, we mapped these elements (small infrastructure of the
ciry - bollards, curbs, fences, ramps, air vents, fountains,
bences) and proposesd scenarios in which they are
transformed into various places for standing, watching,
listening to street performances.
The archetypal typology of the coloured tent
becomes a symbol of spectacle in the life of the city.
Through its contrasting image, typycal to the
permanence of the city, in the open urban spaces, true
signals of entertainment and amusement are raised.
The Street Circus has a dual expressiveness - in its
compact form, it is a mobile circus tent - a triangular
pyramid on wheels, and in its fixed form, it becoms a
stage for various street performances - the unpacked
pyramid.
Given its removable structure, the spectacle has been
traversing territories since ancient times, temporarily
installing itself at various fairs and bringing cultural acts
to key points of public space. places (once every few days,
within each festival, it is placed in a different location)
The Street Circus has a route in each city (Bucharest &
Logrono) and connects the different "stations" – squares,
public places. In both situations, the small events held on
the stationary stage (concerts, theatre, dance, open-air
stand-up curated within the festivals) and the traversing of
the city represent the spectacle.
