We propose a project to recover the courtyards of apartment buildings.

It is a proposal that we make to the Order of Architects of Romania, Bucharest Branch: let's launch public competitions together for such projects.

The project provides a solution to the problem of insufficient parking spaces and the gradual disappearance of green space in neighbourhoods built during the communist period.
Many housing blocks built from '50s to '80s have the same typology: the apartment buildings are mostly arranged around an enclosed space of rectangular planted and landscaped green area designed for spending time outdoors. By '89 the overall courtyards were preserved as green space, today - among increasing number of cars – we are witnessing a gradual reduction of green space to his complete disappearance, in order to ensure car parking.
Our project proposes the construction of a parking space in the basement and design a green space on top. The ensemble we chose to study is situated on Chisinau Boulevard in 2nd Sector of Bucharest. At present, the central green space was cemented entirely creating parking spaces for about 100 cars. Consequently the green space was completely removed and the living quality and the air quality decrease considerably. In our proposal we are providing parking for 200 cars, arranging on the top a park planted with grass, shrubs and trees.
