Authors’ Comment

Seaside. Aside emerged from a desire to look at the coastline differently. Its title directly references lateral thinking, as defined by Edward de Bono, which involves engaging alternative mechanisms of thought.

The book brings together diverse and complementary perspectives on the seaside. Limanu Commune is the book’s point of departure, as the Limanu Summer School is the primary reason for its existence. Yet, exactly because the volume was born on the almost-wild, creative, and unbound beaches between 2 Mai and Vama Veche, its trajectory is long and playful, with several stops in Romania before extending across the world. The book proposes an international reading of the coastline through an interdisciplinary and personal approach.

This volume was created as part of the project Limanu Summer School 2026. Multicultural Heritage at the Edge, implemented by the Barză Viezure Mânz Association and co-funded by the National Cultural Fund Administration (AFCN).
