The proposed objects arise from the need to manage waste resulting from smoking, specifically the remaining cigarette filters. The scenario considered is the usual street ashtray, which can be placed anywhere around the city, and the portable ashtray, a sealed container that you can carry with you when there is no nearby trash bin.
Thus, a design for an object is proposed that can be mass-produced and is easy to install (in the case of the ashtray mounted on a pole), facilitating the responsible collection of waste and preventing littering.
The design of the objects suggests a minimal and subtle integration into the city, while also encouraging the responsible act of disposing of cigarette butts where they should be thrown. The pocket ashtray formally starts from the shape of a tapered bank card, dynamic in design, with a slightly rough texture and a threaded lid, making it practical and easy to fit into a pocket. The street ashtray has a "C" shape, allowing it to attach to any pole size through tangential points, with a surface for street messages/stickers on both sides and an accessible emptying mechanism.
Both ashtrays are made of sheet metal, providing enhanced mechanical strength and good grip during use. The metal is treated to withstand outdoor conditions—rain, temperature variations, dirt, and accidental impacts. In terms of color, both objects use a dark bluish-green shade, similar to the natural tones of shaded foliage. The choice of this color serves a dual purpose: it contributes to a subtle integration into the urban environment and evokes a sense of calm and responsibility. The finish is matte, reducing reflections and helping to mask dirt marks, making maintenance easier.
