1. Context and Challenge
Bloom Specialty Coffee project started two years ago, when a detailed-cleaning auto workshop located on one of the main entrances in Romexpo was transformed into a coffee shop with a flower shop. The clients wanted a hybrid space that combined the two functions in an elegant and welcoming way.
The original space, a small-scale industrial structure with its metal structure and ample glazed surfaces, presented a unique challenge requiring a subtle transition from its industrial look to the warm and sophisticated atmosphere of a modern café.
2. Design Concept
The central design theme was to create an urban oasis where customers could enjoy a multi-sensory experience - artisan coffee and beautiful flowers, all in a tranquil, nature-inspired space. We kept a purist line, with shades of grey and beige, where the only splash of color is provided by the greenery of natural plants.
The interior space has been organized to combine the functions of the café with those of the future flower shop. The uncovered outdoor terrace provides an extensive seating area, strategically placed to attract both pedestrians and potential customers rushing through traffic.
3. Technical and Aesthetic Solutions
The main technical challenge was to solve the thermal comfort problems of the building with an initial floor to ceiling height of almost 5m and large, glazed surfaces that enhanced the greenhouse effect.
Thus, we gave up conventional air conditioning units and opted for a centralized air conditioning solution. This contributes to optimal temperature regulation while retaining the reinterpreted industrial aesthetic.
Elements such as the metal structure and generous glazing were integrated into the final design in a subtle way, creating a balance between functionality and aesthetics. The lighting system is minimalist as the café's working hours stop at 16:00. The purpose of the luminaires is to create accent areas and 'warm up' the space on rainy afternoons. The final ambience is shaped by lights and shadows that add depth and texture without being visually cluttering.
4. Visual Impact and Brand Identity
Visual identity was a key aspect of the Bloom project. We developed a cohesive brand concept, symbolized by the "petal cup", a subtle element found on the serving bar fronts and at the base of the windows.
The minimalist design and attention to detail underline the brand values - good taste, refinement and respect for nature.
5. Community Connection and Urban Impact
The Bloom project stands out for its simplicity. Located at the intersection of urban and nature, Bloom Specialty Coffee is actively contributing to the regeneration of a semi-industrial area. The design attracts both local residents and visitors, offering them an urban retreat where they can enjoy a break from the hustle and bustle of the city.
By creating an open, friendly and connected space with nature, Bloom enriches the social and aesthetic life of the area and has quickly become a community focal point.
6. Conclusion
Bloom Specialty Coffee is not just a hybrid space between a café and a flower shop; it is a gesture of transformation and renewal of urban space through contemporary design. 80% COFFEE SHOP, 20% FLOWER SHOP, 100% GOOD TASTE
