The Other Otter – a warm geometry of urban rest
The Other Otter café proposes a clear architectural intervention, based on a controlled geometric system and an honest material palette. Located in the heart of London, the space is organized around a central square, accentuated by textured ceramic tiling, which becomes the compositional core of the project.
Around this center, the main functions are arranged: the restrooms, library and shop area, banquette seating, and a dedicated relaxation corner. The plan’s fragmentation is treated with precision, generating rhythm and spatial diversity without compromising coherence.
The bar is centrally placed and treated as a sculptural volume, with curved edges and warm wooden finishes. Visually suspended through recessed legs, it gains a fluid presence and becomes a functional and aesthetic anchor, around which circulation flows intuitively.
Materials — microcement, ceramic, natural wood, and textiles with graphic stitching — contribute to a multisensory experience. Wood, in particular, creates unity and atmosphere, appearing throughout both furniture and finishing details.
The furniture introduces dynamic geometries — beveled shapes, zigzags, triangles — that lend the space a contemporary character without sacrificing visual and tactile comfort. The perimeter banquettes, varied tables and chairs offer diverse seating options, while the storefront and inner courtyard naturally extend the spatial logic, integrating light and vegetation into the architectural journey.
The Other Otter is not merely a cozy café, but a space shaped through architecture: with clear geometries, carefully considered details, and an organization that transforms everyday rest into a coherent and balanced experience.
