Authors’ Comment

The project envisions the interior design of a guest accommodation located in the village of Sfântu Gheorghe, set within the unique natural and cultural context of the Danube Delta. The two-storey construction achieves a balanced integration of local tradition, natural materials, and a contemporary architectural language, offering visitors a warm, authentic, and memorable experience.
On the ground floor, three individual accommodation units are complemented by a shared open-plan area encompassing the living room, dining space, and kitchen. This communal space functions as the social core of the project, conceived to foster interaction and connection. It is organized around a central dining table, subtly highlighted by a ceramic inlay within the microcement floor—an intervention that emphasizes the symbolic and spatial value of gathering. The living area is designed to promote direct interaction and presence, deliberately avoiding passive entertainment and encouraging the formation of a temporary community.
The entrance hall leads visitors through a rhythmically composed sequence of arches, subtly articulated by ambient lighting, which contributes to a calm and intimate atmosphere. In the living area, adjacent to the staircase leading to the upper floor, a curved wall evokes the undulating movement of a water ripple, transforming the space into a fluid and contemplative architectural sequence, deeply inspired by the Delta landscape.
The day area is treated chromatically in warm greige tones, enriched by terracotta and turquoise accents visible in the joinery, furnishings, and decorative elements. The ground-floor rooms are individually characterized by traditional textured plaster finishes, artworks by local artists, and wallpapers inspired by the Delta’s native flora and fauna. Elements crafted from straw, reed, and natural fibers further ground the project in the local vernacular, without resorting to pastiche.
The upper floor features two room typologies, differentiated by scale, orientation, and functional layout. One type includes a generous terrace and reinterprets the ground-floor palette through shades of blue-grey and turquoise. The other incorporates modular sofa units that provide functional flexibility—serving either as daytime seating or additional sleeping areas. All textiles—curtains, upholstery, rugs—are made exclusively from natural materials such as linen and cotton, offering a refined tactile and visual texture.
The contemporary aesthetic is further enhanced by the discreet integration of technology: LED strips, concealed ambient lighting, and architectural details such as shadow gaps contribute to the spatial depth and sophistication. Crucially, the design accommodates, without visual disruption, systems for climate control, ventilation with heat recovery, and sensors that ensure thermal comfort and energy efficiency. The project thus establishes a delicate balance between the local and the contemporary, between functionality and expressiveness, between intimacy and community—ultimately providing an experience that transcends temporary habitation and fosters a deeper connection with place, nature, and others.
