Authors’ Comment

The project proposes the design of an underground wine cellar, taking the archetypal form of the vault as its starting point.
This form is not reinterpreted solely as a formal element, but rather becomes the generative principle of the entire spatial structure.
The space is organized along the length of two semi-cylindrical vaults, supported by two pillars, which define the compositional axis and establish the rhythm of a sequence of spaces that evoke an initiatory journey.
At the core of the design lies a longitudinal table that brings together the wine bottle storage area and the tasting zone, accompanied by two “pantries” dedicated to local products that enrich the oenological experience.
At the end of the route, a discreet space with a controlled microclimate is reserved for white wines.
The table’s form reinterprets the idea of the vault this time inverted and is made from surface-charred wood, in a gesture that evokes a dialogue between matter, time, and memory.
The interior is entirely finished with clay applied using the arakabe technique, a material chosen both for its tactile, warm quality and its ability to regulate humidity and temperature essential for wine preservation.
