Authors’ Comment

The Senior Housing complex, designed by DRS-Architects, proposes an architectural composition that embraces volumetric familiarity and natural integration within the area's socio-cultural and environmental context.

The buildings unfold in a balanced, measured rhythm, generating a coherent spatial journey in which public, semi-public, and private areas alternate seamlessly—reflecting a contemporary residential logic centered on comfort and a sense of belonging.

The volumes are carefully calibrated, with gabled roofs, low proportions, and details inspired by traditional Romanian vernacular architecture. The façade rhythm is defined by the interplay of generous windows, sheltered terraces, and natural wood elements, all contributing expressiveness and depth.

Set within a generous natural landscape in Cluj, the complex extends over a plot of approximately 10,800 sqm in a clear, open, and coherent layout. The concept originates from the idea of friendly, recognizable architecture with human-scale proportions and a restrained aesthetic. The modest building volumes, traditional roofs, mineral textures of the plaster, and visible wood detailing support a natural integration into the surrounding landscape.

The interior is conceived as a bright, functionally and emotionally coherent space, where fluid circulation, clearly defined common areas, and furniture adapted to the needs of older adults provide not only comfort but also familiarity. Social areas, a multifunctional room, and relaxation spaces are designed to foster interaction and a sense of community.

The architecture of this ensemble is more than a functional housing solution—it is a manifestation of social responsibility and care for quality of life.

Through a discreet, balanced, and contextually sensitive architectural language, the project offers a model of best practice for contemporary senior living—within an environment of calm, safety, and dignity.
