Authors’ Comment

Originally designed by Proiect Brașov Institute, the Teleferic Hotel Complex was built in the 70s, functioned until 1992 and went through a failed refurbishment attempt in 2008, before returning to the hotel circuit following ample consolidation, expansion and spatial remodelation works. Given the fact that the building had not been conserved or protected for the past 20 years, many of its components were severly damaged.
The 2970 sqm complex is made up of building segments of different heights, which are placed radially and connected by the reception area.
Because visitor access was cumbersome prior to refurbishment, a restructuring of the entrance area was needed in order to make it suitable to the current accessibility requirements. To increase comfort, most of the accomodation areas were extended, coupled or restructured, and the attics of the two accomodation buildings were remodeled. Through the reorganization of the spaces at semi-basement, a conference center was created and equipped with halls of different capacities to allow for the accomodation of different activities. The space previously occupied by the thermal plant was also reconfigured, and a spa area with an interior pool, sauna and necessary appendixes was added.
