In shaping a neighbourhood, the presence of a school has a vital role, not only in educating children, but also in building strong local communities. Its location, accessibility, and the quality of education it provides are often key factors for young families when choosing where to live. Yet, the social function of a school within the community is frequently overlooked.
Beyond its educational purpose, a school serves as a meaningful landmark in daily life. It supports both personal and professional development and provides a physical anchor within the urban landscape. Its courtyard can become a gathering point and a symbol shared across generations.
The project proposes an educational facility in the Rahova neighborhood, on a site bordered by Petre Ispirescu and Iancu Jianu streets. The plot is located at the intersection of multiple urban fabrics, reflected in the coexistence of socialist apartment blocks, single-family dwellings and contemporary constructions, all of them being resulted from various urban planning strategies implemented in the city of Bucharest.
Thus, the proposal seeks to create a dialogue between the fragmented image of the context and the new architectural volume, through the connection between interior and exterior spaces, while consistently maintaining a focus on the primary users – the students. Moreover, by introducing this educational function, the neighborhood gains a meaningful landmark, defined not only by its vibrant appearance but also by its role as a foundation for future generations.
