The project envisions the transformation of Ovidiu Island into a space of retreat, contemplation, and regeneration, through a discreetly integrated spa and wellness complex set within the natural landscape of Lake Siutghiol. In a coastal context often marked by speculative interventions and loss of local identity, the proposal offers a sustainable, empathetic alternative — architecture that listens to the site, respects its memory, and invites its rediscovery.

At the heart of the intervention lies a circular, fully glazed volume that provides a 360-degree visual connection to the surrounding lake and vegetation. The architecture becomes transparent and permeable, allowing nature to take on an active role — not merely as a backdrop, but as a partner in the spatial experience. The building houses wellness and therapeutic functions, alongside accommodation, leisure, and social spaces, all within a calm and balanced setting.

Access to the island is organized through three piers: a pedestrian pontoon connecting the island to the mainland, a main docking pier for visitors, and a third platform dedicated to seasonal water sports and leisure. These access routes suggest a gradual transition and emphasize the experience of arriving at a protected, self-contained place with its own atmosphere.

In contrast to the low, site-sensitive architecture, a lighthouse emerges as a subtle vertical marker on the island — both a visual landmark and a symbolic gesture. Modest in scale, it adds orientation and poetic depth, recalling Ovid’s exile and the theme of creative isolation. As the only vertical presence in an otherwise horizontal landscape, the lighthouse reinforces the island’s identity without disturbing its natural balance.

Through the use of natural materials, sustainable construction methods, and a respectful relationship with the site, the project avoids invasive gestures and proposes a quiet architecture — low-impact yet rich in symbolic intensity. It suggests an alternative form of tourism: slower, more conscious, and rooted in the spirit and story of the place. Ovidiu Island is reimagined as a contemporary refuge, where architecture, nature, and memory coexist in harmony.
