The project is located within the historic complex of the Sant’Eustorgio Monastery in Milan, a site of profound spiritual and architectural significance, situated between Corso di Porta Ticinese and the adjacent Vetra Park. The intervention focuses on the second cloister, an open courtyard, still incomplete, that currently hosts Diocesano Museum and various cultural functions.
The architectural proposal aims to complete the missing wing of the cloister, enhancing the geometric clarity and spatial cohesion of the ensemble. The new volume is conceived as a contemporary addition that integrates harmoniously into the historical context, both in terms of scale and material expression. Its role is not only to restore the compositional integrity of the cloister but also to provide new flexible spaces for activities held by the Diocesan Museum, such as exhibitions, workshops, and events.
Strategically positioned, the new structure acts as a mediator between the city and the monastic interior, creating a permeable transition from the urban edge to the contemplative heart of the complex. The intervention seeks a balanced dialogue between heritage and modernity, enhancing the site's cultural relevance while preserving its sacred atmosphere.
