Artisan HUB – Humans United in Business
A project that redefines space through community, function, and intent
Artisan HUB is a project that translates into architecture the idea of a collaborative platform dedicated to entrepreneurship in the specialty coffee industry. Designed as a space for work, dialogue, and display, the HUB brings together a diverse set of functions: a retail shop for specialty equipment, workshop areas, offices, cupping and training spaces, a conference zone, equipment service, separate storage for equipment and green beans, coffee roastery, podcast area, packaging zone, restrooms, and a kitchenette.
Located on the ground floor of a building in the Escape Residence complex on Șoseaua Străulești, the space covers a total surface of 385 square meters. It showcases equipment from a wide range of suppliers, complemented by a coffee bar, product display area, and a brow bar activated during events or for occasional visitors.
The architectural intervention begins from a functional and honest aesthetic, embracing the raw character of the existing space. Concrete walls were left exposed, while ceilings, HVAC installations, and the beam structure were visually unified in a dark grey tone, partially extended onto the walls — a gesture that brings coherence and rhythm to the interior.
Materials such as perforated metal, steel pipe, OSB, perforated cardboard, and tension straps are used expressively, yet with a clear functional logic. White ceiling arches, modular furniture, custom lighting, and shelving in the shop area create a flexible layout, ready to support various usage scenarios.
Architectural gestures are subtle yet meaningful: from visible gypsum board studs used decoratively, to the easily replicable display structures, including those integrated into the shopfront. Several elements were removed along the way to obtain more open space and improved functional legibility.
In the secondary zones — offices, service area, storage rooms, kitchenette, and a dedicated podcast space — the same organizational clarity was preserved.
A distinct chromatic accent introduced in the final stage of the design is a deep blue, marking the corridor leading to the technical areas. The same hue defines the perforated cardboard arch, shortened to clearly separate the public-facing space from the operational one.
The Artisan HUB project proposes a model of adaptable, coherent, and scalable infrastructure — where architecture is not surface, but a tool for community, collaboration, and intelligent work.
