Located in an industrial building in northern Bucharest, a former taxi garage in the pre-'89 period, the space underwent an extensive transformation – first of purification and cleaning, then of re-compartmentalization and redefinition – to meet the new needs of an architecture and design office, as well as a multifunctional space intended for events.
The original industrial style was preserved and reinterpreted through a contrasting selection of contemporary materials and minimalist finishes, which aim to achieve a balance between functionality and aesthetics.
The organization of the space was thought out on two levels: horizontally, by treating the floor differently, and vertically, by using mobile curtains, which allow fluid delimitations between functions. Thus, a permanent area dedicated to the architecture office was configured, with a semi-private work enclave positioned along one of the glass walls, as well as a conference room. These are separated from the main space – common and versatile, which hosts various events: pop-up dinners, private parties, networking evenings, workshops and more.
In addition to these, a fully equipped semi-professional kitchen allows the testing of culinary concepts, and the remaining auxiliary functions – the workshop, storage spaces and the bathroom – support daily activity.
The materials and objects used reflect a personal aesthetic: adapted or invented finishes in situ, furniture pieces designed by the studio team from existing elements in the inventory, alongside statement objects – such as the Shogun lamp from Artemide, unique furniture pieces from MORFØNOVEL, the armchair from STUDIO GRECA, but also vintage furniture with personality, from Urban Vintage.
Refusing the conventional boundaries between design, execution and “completion”, the space evolved like a living organism, in a work in progress type process, in which daily use generates direct responses to needs, rhythms, resources and contexts. Through this overlapping of temporal layers, the space proposes an atmosphere open to experimentation and multifunctionality, a framework that invites continuous exploration and redefinition.
