Authors’ Comment

The project was born from the need of the National Commission for the Control of Nuclear Activity (CNCAN) to create a specialized branch for responding to any nuclear or radiological incident that could threaten our country.
Our project consisted of the design of a GF+3 building, newly built within the CNCAN premises, intended to incorporate several functions: work offices, training rooms, accommodation spaces for emergency situations, kitchen and dining room.
The challenge of the design theme consisted of transforming a space with a "sober" destination, which involves activities carried out under the threat of nuclear disasters, into a warm, welcoming, bright space that gives safety and hope.
The newly designed space is fluid, with clear zoning, structured on the four levels, delimited by mostly transparent compartments, for a free circulation of light and to avoid any feeling of confinement.
The main materials used were light wood in contrast with natural panels of stabilized moss and lichen, designed to bring the peace and relaxation of nature inside. The natural materials and bright colors were designed to de-stress in the possible moments of crisis for which this space was designed.
