Authors’ Comment

The project has 2 stakes, namely, solving the problems faced by the Floria Capsali School of Choreography and, by placing the new headquarters in the buffer zone between houses and collective dwelling, reconciling and articulating the 2 urban fabrics, activating the place through the cultural function the new school will bring. At the moment, the institution is facing a crisis of spaces for rehearsals, the existing ones being unsuitable for carrying out the specialized activity. We also mention the lack of a boarding school for students from outside the city, the lack of a much desired performance space, a buffet, as well as a library with archive. The project aims to create a new headquarters for the school to include the functions mentioned above, in addition to the 2 main aspects of student life; dance (specialized classes with related spaces) and regular classes. The project is located in the Rahova-Sebastian neighborhood, on Făt Frumos Street, at the point of collision between the world of collective housing units from the socialist period and the old plot of houses. In order to mediate between the two worlds represented by the two distinct types of of urban fabric, I would like my intervention to function as a piece of the city, to create public spaces for the community, green spaces, offering the inhabitants of the area access to performances and to the world of dance, revitalizing the neighborhood. The project involves the implementation of an educational and cultural function in a disadvantaged area without public equipment and green spaces.
