The studied ensemble consists of several built structures, among which those facing N. Cernaianu Street, along the length of the plot, are listed as historical monuments. Today, the ensemble is in an advanced state of deterioration and abandonment. This condition represents the starting point for an intervention that seeks not only to preserve and adapt the existing structures, but also to reintegrate them into the life of the city and the community. The project proposes the transformation of a former mill into a center for gastronomic education and experience, through a contemporary reinterpretation of the vocational school. In a context where vocational education has gradually lost its importance, the project aims to restore the relationship between learning, experience, and community, providing an environment in which education takes place both within specialized spaces and in direct relation to the city. The proposed program combines educational functions with a series of public spaces dedicated to gastronomy. Workshops and teaching spaces are complemented by areas for production, tasting, and interaction with the public, allowing the activities of the school to become visible to the community. Public functions are organized around a central square, generating activity throughout the day and transforming the ensemble into a new focal point for the area. The inner courtyard becomes the central element of the ensemble, serving as a space for social interaction and as an extension of the learning process into the outdoors. The educational spaces are organized around it, while corridors and circulation areas are designed as active spaces capable of accommodating individual study, group work, and relaxation. Permeability is an important principle of the intervention. The project proposes two main entrances, one from the public square and one from the educational area, as well as a secondary entrance through the historic monument. The two central courtyards are differentiated through vegetation, paving, and their relationship with the functions, while being connected by a portico and a separating volume. Located in a disadvantaged area and characterized by its public nature, the project seeks to establish new relationships between education, community, and the city. The center provides young people, particularly those from vulnerable backgrounds, with a safe environment for education, social interaction, and professional development, while also contributing to reducing the risk of social marginalization and school dropout. At the same time, vocational training in gastronomy responds to an actual need in the labor market, providing practical skills and opportunities for professional integration. Thus, the project goes beyond the role of an educational institution and becomes a community infrastructure capable of supporting the economic and social development of the area. Through the adaptive reuse of the historic monument and the activation of abandoned spaces, the intervention proposes a new relationship between heritage, education, and public space. The former mill is reintegrated not as an isolated object, but as part of an active urban structure in which learning, production, gastronomy, and community life intersect. The project demonstrates that the contemporary reinterpretation of the vocational school can function both as an instrument for professional education and as a catalyst for urban revitalization and community development.
