The theme of the diploma project aims to respond to an emerging need of contemporary society: open access to information and the valorization of collective memory through digital means. The project proposes the creation of a digital archive integrated into public space, conceived as a place for knowledge, encounter, and cultural expression. The choice of the site near the Oradea Fortress results from an analysis focused on the concept of a water-oriented urban cultural route, the proposal being envisioned as a culminating point of the Art Nouveau capital’s cultural trail.

The conceptual approach starts from the idea of an “open archive” — a shift from passive storage toward active interaction with memory. The archive becomes an accessible environment where information is not only preserved but also activated through digital technologies, multimedia installations, and interactive interfaces. The built space no longer functions as a neutral container, but as a catalyst for discovery, dialogue, and reinterpretation of heritage. Visually, the project proposes a permeable and flexible architecture, capable of accommodating cultural, educational, and artistic functions.

The relationship between user and information is conceived as a participatory process. The visitor is not merely a receiver but contributes to the enrichment of content through exploration, selection, and reinterpretation. The archive thus acquires the qualities of a cultural platform and a creative laboratory, where digital art becomes a means of translating data into sensitive experiences.

The project seeks to redefine the typology of the archive, transforming it from a closed institution into an active public space with an identity-forming role. In contrast to the static image of traditional archives, this proposal advocates for a dynamic archive, connected to contemporary cultural networks and to urban life.

The theoretical foundation includes studies on digital heritage, public space, and interactive architectures, highlighting the role of technology in democratizing memory and stimulating urban creativity.
