Authors’ Comment

Even prior to the contemporary intervention, the CS apartment had a strong identity, characteristic of buildings constructed during the interwar period. The design concept stemmed from a desire to preserve the spirit of the space as much as possible. The interventions were conceived as a dialogue between old and new, between original materials and contemporary language.

From a functional perspective, the spatial layout was preserved in its original form. The only visual separations were introduced in the day area, where a piece of furniture was strategically placed to offer the user an additional degree of privacy, without compromising the open character of the space.

In terms of materials, the dominant element of the design is the exposed brick walls, which act as a strong visual counterpoint, evoking the raw texture of time in deliberate contrast with the surrounding finished surfaces. This leitmotif appears throughout the apartment, accompanied by cool shades of grey and white, in contrast with the warmth of wood.

The proposed furniture represents a contemporary insertion that does not obstruct visual perspectives, but subtly defines the living and dining functions. In terms of lighting, both accent and general lighting contribute to the overall spatial coherence.

The intervention does not impose a new architectural language, but rather listens to and respects the existing one, preserving its original character while simultaneously responding to the needs of a contemporary lifestyle.
