Authors’ Comment

This 80-square-meter apartment in Bucharest was approached as a space in transition, recently lived in, with existing finishes in good condition and a few provisional pieces that had yet to shape a distinct identity. From this starting point, the design aimed to weave a cohesive, warm narrative capable of imprinting a contemporary character throughout.
One of the most significant interventions was to redefine how the interior unfolds. In the kitchen and hallway area, a tall custom-made element introduces a sense of flow, subtly partitioning functions while preserving openness. This carefully calibrated gesture brought clarity to movement and a natural rhythm to the space.
The original flooring was retained as a thread of continuity, while all other layers were meticulously reconsidered. Walls and ceilings were unified in a warm, enveloping beige that creates a serene backdrop, allowing textures and contrasts to emerge. On this neutral canvas, graphic black accents, matte cabinetry, smoked glass panels, and sculptural coffee tables bring depth and a measured visual tension.
Materiality plays a defining role in shaping atmosphere: generous boucle, textured cotton, and wool details combine to craft a tactile richness that feels inviting and familiar. Contemporary furnishings, with their softened volumes and balanced proportions, coexist effortlessly alongside clearly delineated zones and curated decorative compositions. Each accessory and decorative object was selected with the same considered eye, reinforcing the aesthetic language and adding layers of function and character—from textiles to small-scale furniture pieces that enhance both comfort and practicality.
Lighting is approached as a layered narrative in itself: ambient fixtures, integrated solutions, and portable lamps compose a palette of moods that can transform the space throughout the day.
The project as a whole seeks a delicate equilibrium between contrast and harmony, simplicity and refinement. The result is an apartment that exudes visual tranquility and a warm, contemporary presence, conceived as the backdrop to an everyday life lived with ease and quiet confidence.
