The Hidden Gem project was a journey of rediscovering personal style and exploring the deep connection between the built environment and the identity of those who inhabit it. Starting from an initially clear desire—a minimalist, monochrome interior dominated by neutral tones—the project evolved into an authentic expression of a surprisingly playful and expressive personality.
The initial discussions suggested a preference for aesthetic sobriety. However, a visit to the home revealed a different reality: colorful paintings, bold clothing pieces, and vibrant personal objects. These discoveries led to a rethinking of the initial concept, bringing to light the need for a balance between neutrality and expressiveness.
We maintained a cohesive background in beige-grey tones, providing a calm and flexible canvas, upon which we layered accents that reflect the clients’ authenticity: purple pendant lights in the kitchen, blue dining chairs, a brass-clad island, a sophisticated Cassina armchair, and a multicolored rug that ties the entire ensemble together.
In each room, we continued this interplay between subtlety and vivid detail. Sculptural mirrors, carefully selected artworks, and varied textures helped create a dynamic atmosphere while maintaining visual coherence.
The result is not just a harmonious space, but a home that truly reflects the identity of its inhabitants. The clients realized that their aspiration toward monochrome minimalism was influenced more by the impersonal aesthetics of hotel interiors than by their true selves. Now, their home is not just beautifully designed—it is deeply personal, a space where they genuinely feel at home.
The Hidden Gem was more than just an interior design project—it was a lesson in honesty, courage, and the power of a space to become an extension of the self. This experience reaffirmed our belief that interior design is not only about aesthetics, but about life, joy, and meaningful connection.
