Authors’ Comment

For this project, we faced an interesting challenge: to simultaneously meet the needs of our client, Ruxandra, and those of her silent companion, Axi the cat. From the very beginning, we understood that Ruxandra’s main desire was to create a harmonious space that blended her personal comfort with Axi’s specific needs, so the entire design concept was built around this idea. The challenge was even greater, as we had to achieve this within just 48 square meters.

In the living room, we created a focal point with a dedicated climbing path for the cat, placed on the wall behind the sofa. Knowing that cats feel safer when they can observe their surroundings from a height, we designed this path to give Axi the opportunity to explore the space from above. The path begins with a small nook next to the sofa, continues with wall-mounted steps, and ends with a shelf supported by metal structures, where Axi can reach by climbing the steps or by choosing an alternative route using two small ladders. To maintain visual consistency, we mirrored this element on the opposite wall, within the TV and desk furniture ensemble, incorporating a similar shelf also supported by metal structures. These structures were painted in a dark blue shade to soften their industrial look and provide aesthetic balance.

In the bedroom, we continued the personalized approach by creating a window bench—a spot where Ruxandra can relax with Axi. This multifunctional piece not only offers a cozy place to unwind but also maximizes storage space, essential in a small apartment. In fact, all the furniture in the bedroom, including the storage bed, was custom-made to make the most of every centimeter.

From a chromatic perspective, we opted for a pastel color palette, with accents of turquoise and yellow, all set against a light and bright background. This color scheme was chosen to bring freshness and create a calm, welcoming atmosphere.

In essence, this project reflects the effort to harmoniously blend comfort and aesthetics for the client, while giving careful attention to the needs of her feline companion.
