Authors’ Comment

"Water is fluid, soft, and yielding. But water will wear away rock, which is rigid and cannot yield. As a rule, whatever is fluid, soft, and yielding will overcome whatever is rigid and hard." Lao Tzu. In shaping Apa Nova's interface with the clients we started from the paradox: What is soft is strong! We thermoformed "the water" in organic, fluid forms, using white composite to which we counter-put the natural wood veneer boxes to introduce the user into a bodiless, yet natural and safe space.
The consultant places are distributed in individual pockets on the perimeter, attached to the glass facade, visually mediating interior and exterior space. A red faucet over a layered sink cut into the reception desk gives the clients water to drink. This reinforce the idea that the water Apa Nova gives to the city is crystal clear and ready to drink. One important element of the space is the cylindrical shaped central LED screen- representing an interactive art installation- meant to remind us of the role that water plays in our lives. The screen is interactive and re-acts to visitors’ movement in space. The overall configuration of the space floats between playful and sober, innovation and nature, suggesting the ideal of Apa Nova water provider as a "today's life provider".
