Authors’ Comment

The site of the Operetta benefits from a favorable context: placed in the centre of the city, on the left bank of Dâmboviţa river, it has a natural slope that descends to the water, opening to Bucur’s Church. The purpose of the intervention is to enable the presence of the existing elements and to transform the Operetta site into a continuous and coherent area, integrated at an urban level.
The main elements contributing to the integration of the Operetta site are: the use of natural slopes towards the river for creating panoramic views; the new contact with water by bringing water on site through a ribbon that flows back into the Dâmboviţa river and by creating a belvedere passage that orients towards the river and towards Bucur’s Church; making landmarks through the structure of the footbridge towards Dâmboviţa river and though a vertical accent in the intersection; enabling vegetation and the sounds of nature though the new habitat created; generating traffic through the hidden parking in the natural slope.
As a strategy the general plan has a long and medium-term vision. The project can be split in phases to obtain a coherent project at the end by making the Operetta area become a link at an urban level.
